Announcing the PQE-2016 “Best Abstract” Award

Building on the success of previous years, the organizers of PQE-2016 announce the PQE-2016 “Best Abstract” Award. This award celebrates excellence in writing the best possible abstract for the conference.

The winner will be selected by a blue-ribbon panel of PQE experts consisting of: Mark D. Havey from Old Dominion University, Frank A. Narducci from the Naval Air Systems Command, and George R. Welch from Texas A&M University,

The winner will receive:

  • A fabulous dinner at the world-class Aerie Restaurant at the Cliff Lodge, Snowbird.
  • Recognition on our web site and at the Sunday evening reception.

In making their judgment, the committee will consider factors such as:

  1. Clarity. The abstract should effectively communicate what the talk will be about. It should entice the reader to come to the talk.
  2. Presentation. The abstract should look good. This pretty much requires at least one nice figure. Graphics are good. Clear, pretty, graphics are better!
  3. Efficient use of space. PQE allows an 8.5x11 inch page (minus 2 cm margins). This is a lot of room, and we would like to see it used well. One short paragraph leaving most of the page blank is bad. An entire page crammed with single-spaced 8 point font is also bad.

This program has been a great success in previous years, and we look forward to thanking all the participants who will take the trouble to prepare good abstracts. We also welcome all feedback on this effort.

Note: To be considered for the award, participants must submit their abstract before December 1, 2015.

Organizing Committee: Olga Kocharovskaya, Virgil Sanders, and Marlan O. Scully.
